The mix that started it all. Makossa Classics initially came about as a 30 minute demo that I used to give to venues and promoters when I was looking for gigs. The mix consisted of some of my favorite songs I was playing at a new Tuesday weekly in Oakland called “Makossa” with my partner Joe Quixx. I thought the types of music we were mixing and the way we played them were unique and I wanted to capture that. I always got a good response when I would play the demo for friends so on the eve of the 2nd anniversary of our Makossa party I decided to add 30 more minutes and make it an official mix as a giveaway at the party. Long story short the response was great, Makossa traveled across the Bay and across the country to New York, and Vol. 2 came to light a couple of years later. For those that have only heard Vol. 2 and are hearing this for the first time, I’m sure the voicemail intro will make a little more sense now. Hope you enjoy! -Wonway
